Italian-style meatballs Pasta

INGRIDIENTS :

For the meatballs:

  •  1 pound (450g) ground beef (you can also use a mix of beef and pork)
  •  1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  •  1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  •  1/4 cup milk
  •  1 egg, lightly beaten
  •  2 cloves garlic, minced
  •  1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 tablespoon dried parsley)
  •  Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Olive oil, for frying

For the tomato sauce:

  •  1 can (28 ounces / 800g) crushed tomatoes
  •  1 small onion, finely chopped
  •  2 cloves garlic, minced
  •  1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped (or 1 tablespoon dried basil)
  •  1 teaspoon dried oregano
  •  Salt and pepper, to taste
  •  1 tablespoon olive oil

How to make

1. Prepare the meatballs:

  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, milk, egg, minced garlic, parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  • Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter.

2. Cook the meatballs:

  •  In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat.
  •  Add the meatballs in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook until browned on all sides, about 6-8 minutes per batch. Transfer cooked meatballs to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

3. Make the tomato sauce:

  • In the same skillet, add a bit more olive oil if needed. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Add minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  • Stir in the crushed tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
  • Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer gently for about 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.

4. Finish the dish:

  • Add the cooked meatballs back into the skillet with the tomato sauce. Spoon some sauce over the meatballs.
  • Cover the skillet and let it simmer on low heat for another 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the meatballs are cooked through and tender.

5. Serve:

  • Serve the meatballs and sauce over cooked pasta of your choice (spaghetti, linguine, or penne work well). Garnish with additional grated Parmesan cheese and chopped fresh parsley, if desired.
