Ingredients

Honey 2/3 cup
Cinnamon sticks 2 (3")
Sugar 1 1 /2 cups, divided
Bourbon
Raw pecans 3 cups (about 12 ounces)
Ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon
Finely grated orange zest 1 teaspoon, plus orange curls 1 teaspoon
Fresh phyllo pastry 20 (17x12") sheets frozen & thawed
Unsalted butter 1 cup (2 stick) melted

A tremendous sweet tooth satisfier on the Thanksgiving Day, this diamond-cut Pecan-Orange Baklava Pie brings a heavenly combination of orange zest and honey syrup in the filling. This sweet-savory is a traditional Middle Eastern dessert that is enjoyed by all age group.

Step 1

Put the oven to preheat at 350°F. Put one cup water to boil and add cinnamon sticks, sugar, and honey and bring to boil in a medium saucepan on medium heat. Stir till the sugar dissolves. Reduce the heat and stir till the syrup goes down to 1 1/2 cups in around 15–18 minutes.

Shift the mix a medium bowl and stir in bourbon, and set to cool.

In the meantime take a rimmed bake sheet and spread the pecan evenly and toast until they turn golden brown for around 13-15 minutes. Set to cool. In a food processor add nuts, ground cinnamon, Orange zest, and rest sugar to grind till coarsely chopped.

Cut out 20 Phyllo sheet circles of 9’ carefully and cover the pan with it.

Arrange the pan with phyllo sheets in a manner that you have 5 layers of pastry in order of full circle- half circle-full circle-half circle-full circle. Spread butter in each layer well. Use 1/5th of the nut mixture to spread it evenly over the phyllo. Repeat the layering procedure for 4 more times and top with the remaining sheets and butter properly.

Now, using a sharp knife start making starburst pattern and diamond pattern without cutting till the bottom of the pan.

Transfer the pan into the rimmed baking tray and bake for 45 minutes till the phyllo turns golden brown.

Pour cooled syrup over the hot baklava in 4 rounds with orange curls garnished on top. Let the pie completely cool down in the pan itself. Removing the ring cut the pie along the scored lines and serve hot and juicy.
